Am going thru same thing with 2.5 yo, started a month ago...see my post below "Abrupt change in normal sleeping habits (long" and the answer given by 'spot'...concentrate on the WHY...after 2 weeks of unsuccessful communication, out of the blue at the breakfast table she matter-of-factly stated that she was afraid of the monsters and wild animals in her room. now at least i have something to work with...

i work full time so i sympathize with you on how much you need your sleep since we are experiencing the exact same thing you've described...it is very frustrating!!

a trip to the ped wouldn't hurt either (since me and dh work and also have 15 mo, we haven't got around to that yet, but will soon)

good luck
