my 3 year old change in sleep patterns

My 3 year old is all of a sudden waking through the night and does not want us to leave when we tuck her in. She has been a perfect sleeper up to this point and we are strongly opposed to letting her sleep with us which would solve the problem. I feel she is playing us to see how far she can push it? Any suggestions. As much as it breaks my heart I will let her scream until she falls asleep. She does not seem to be afraid of anything but if she is and I force her to cry it out then I will fell horrible. She can get quite hysterical.
