7 yr old with sudden sleep problems

Posted by Sleepless In T.O. on September 14, 2002 at 11:54:42:

I have a 7 yr old daughter who up until recently was a great sleeper. We moved into a new home almost 3 months ago and she and her sister made the transition well. My 7 yr old slept fine in her new room for about 5 weeks and then started waking up in the middle of the night several times. We would take her back into her room and she'd go back to sleep, but lately she won't even go to bed alone. We've been reading her to sleep and even put a CD made by our hypnotherapist neighbor on for her at night. She falls asleep but doesn't stay asleep. She wakes between 12 and 3 am at least once a night and throws a tantrum if we try putting her back to her own bed. Our pediatrician told us to try Benadryl which didn't work at all. Next he prescribed a very low dose of Atarax, also with no results. The only way we can get her to stop screaming and back to sleep is to give in and let her bunk with us. But not after losing our patience and our tempers. She's waking every one in the house and possibly even our neighbors! We tried telling her she could sleep on the floor in our room or her sister's room to no avail. Last night we even moved her bed into her sister's room and she still woke up and threw a fit when we tried to get her back into bed. I want to believe it's due to our move but the fact that she was fine for the first 5 weeks throws me. Is it normal to have a delayed reaction like that? We moved from one the highest crime communities to the one of the safest communities in the US. Statistics prove it, but when we try to tell her that she doesn't get it. Someone please help us before we end up losing our minds too! Thanks in advance for any advice given!
