I'm sorry I don't know or have many suggestions, but it's good that you've consulted with her pediatrician. One thought would have been related to allergies, possibly, but the trial on Benadryl would have also addressed that.

The only thing I can think of is that she has developed some fears related to bedtime. She's already in the habit of waking, and it could be that she has made an association or connection that is leaving her very fearful. They don't have to be rational either - on another forum a woman writes of hearing a fender-bender as a child and translating that into a fear of dying in her sleep. Do you best to address or find the root problem, but otherwise stick to the routine and structure of bedtime.
