see a doctor.

Either there have been unusual events (eg, hypnogogic hallucinations, sleep paralysis - that he's not telling cuz it 'sounds crazy') or he's made an association with bedtime and sleep that he's focusing on. The anxieties related here can be cause by a number of things and ruling out a medical cause can help - it may even reflect hormones (starting puberty?) or amood didsorder.

his pediatrician is a good place to start to rule out medical causes, and encourage him to talk to someone (even if it's not you. a teacher, etc) or possibly keep a log/diary of what he's feeling and thinki8ng at night when he's up. it may help pinpoint the problem.
