17 month old - waking up with terrors??

My 17 month old boy has suddenly starting waking up from naps or in the morning in a sleep terror state. The symptoms all seem to match terrors, except that it is not during the middle of the night but in the morning. The first time it occured we were so terrified and convinced he was choking we called 911. Is this terrors or something else?
