Typically you do not need a sleep study prior to a T&A. Especially if there are witnessed apneas. Sleep apnea in children will cause multiple awakening during the night, failure to thrive, symptoms of ADD, etc.

This is an very important time in her development to get good sleep. Don't wait for sleep test. If she continues to have a breathing problem after healing from the surgery a sleep study will be needed to determine severity. There are many treatments available for children that are not available to adults.

There is always a small amount of risk with a T&A and you have to weight the cost of not having it done. Make sure the surgeon knows about the snoring and sleep apnea.
