Yes, I experienced this with my daughter. She was being prosecuted for truancy and facing jail time because she couldn't wake up in the morning.
It's a good thing you're going for the sleep study. It was a sleep study that showed us that my daughter was having six obstructive sleep apnea episodes an hour each night. These were mini-arousals which kept her from getting a good night's sleep because her tonsils blocked her throat just as she relazed upon entering REM sleep.
Since she was an almost fully grown teenager and pediatric ear nose and throat (ENT) doctors are backed up because of demand, our doctor sent us to an adult ENT who told us that our daughter couldn't be treated unless she had seven episodes an hour.
But by speaking to a pediatric ENT we found out that they treat obstructive sleep apnea agressively in children (up to age 21). A tonsillectomy/apnoidectomy cured our daughter. She went from Cs,Ds, and Fs in school to straight As. The change was amazing.
I wish you good luck with your sleep test and good luck with your daughter. The center allowed me to sleep right beside my daughter during her test and that calmed her.
