Hello all
Thumb sucking and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, I haven't found much in regards to this online, I'm positive that my child suffered severe reps event caused by thumbsucking and OSA, please ready below and let me me know if anyone else is having this problem with their child.
Thanks
My 10 year old daughter has had 2 events of respiratory distress since August, the first during the day while she was sleeping on the sofa, we thought it was a seizure, she however was stiff eyes rolled back in head, arms like claws, my neighbour preformed CPR on her, by the time parmedics arrived she was resting on side, they put down seizure at the hospital, we spent 7 hrs there and where sent home after blood, urine and throat swab came back okay, i was told 60% of children will experience a seizure and tod Hospital would call for neuro appt. This was on Aug 24th, on Sept 1st when i turning in I heard her Grunt, went to check on her, same distress, pulled from top bunk and gave her mouth to mout, in which she coughed up a lot of Saliva, sat with her a few minutes until she was able to move, took her to bed with me, Our Dr's asspt was for Sept 5th, she's sleeping with me for now, Sept 4th I called the hosptial to see if a neuro appt had been made for her, there was not, went to Dr's on Wed, arrived home to receive 2 calls for appts, CatScan on the 7th, and EEG on the 10th, I explained to the technician that i believed she may have OSA and not the seizures the EEG was for, My Daughter was extrememly tired so I told her to have a nap and suck her thumb, sure enough with 10 minutes of testing she started gasping, I pulled herthumb from her mouth, she was still sleeping, the rest of the test was well. the last few nights she has slept with socks on both hands, she hasn't had any distress but does have all the symptons associated with Apnea, constant moving, weird sleep posiitons, raspy snoring at times, sweats, etc. I've looked at her tonsils the last few days, mon and tues right tonsil was touching her uvula, left was pretty close to touching, this morning they weren't as bad about 3+. Friday is the neuro consult, at that time I'm requesting ENT and Sleep Study. I want her tonsils and adenoids out, hopefully her ODD/ADHD will be better, i haven't started her on Meds, her Dr's appt for Sept 5th was to get meds. But after reading a lot of articles on Apnea and behaviour problems, I'm going to wait. Once this is all settled, my next step will be to get myself tested for Apnea and taken off the ADHD meds i've been taking on and off for the past 3 yrs. I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD when my teenaged daughter was, now I'm questioning her symptons as well.
