Teenagers typically need 9 or more hours of sleep a night. So sleep deprivation is one possibility.

Medication, we don't know, could be another.

Looking at the severity of her sleepiness I suspect a sleep disorder. Try watching her sleep and then answer the question on the sleep test located on this site. It may point you in the right direction.

Nothing beats talking to a pediatric sleep specialist who will have access to her complete medical history.
