If he has a stuffy nose he will be mouth breathing during sleep/wake which causes many problems. Among them are changes in the developmental anatomy of the oral cavity causing long term problems if not taken care of.

One option is to have him seen by an ENT. One who is also a sleep doc would be best. Sometimes a problem with a deviated septum, etc. can cause the problem.

It will be better to find the cause rather than treating the symptoms with meds.
