need help 8 yr with sleep problem

my 8 yr old son has developed a strange sleep problem with in 10 to 30 min of going to bed he becomes very frightened he complanes of every thing sounding very loud and every thing looking huge he will start screaming and is very hard to calm down i have tryed giving him an earlyer bed time so that he can get more sleep its not helping it seems to be getting worse i dont know what to do need help
