They should be standardized since, unlike clothing, etc. they are medical equipment.
I would think the medical community would force this issue. Or the insurance companies. Surely there are some differences in facial characteristics that can't be accounted for but standard sizes based on a few critical measurements like bottom of nose to top of bridge, width at nares, max protrudence from face would surely get one into the ball park. My insurance company contracts with another to provide DME and naturally they only carry 1 manufacturer's line of machines and masks. If I want to get something else they will order it for me but its going to be a shot in the dark and I doubt that I will be able to send it back if it doesn't fit.
This should be a rider stuck on the bill to force manufacturers to disclose autopap algorithms and such. Standardize all fittings, tubes, etc. as well.
