They make Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) units for computers that you could use as a backup for if the power goes out. They are not portable, but they would work at home. You can find them at any electronics or computer store like Best Buy, or Fry's Electronics. They range widely in price and can give you from five minutes up to hours of backup time if the power goes out.
