My sleep study was done at home. A mercury switch for position, electrodes for REM and heart rate, pulse oximeter and a "sniffer" device that did domething or other.
I was mostly wired up in an office then instructed on how to attach the rest of the wires into positions drawn on my face.
This did mean that I had a box the size of a dictionary strapped to the middle of my chest, preventing me from sleeping on my front. I got about 5 hours sleep.
