I have a daughter who is age 5 and sometimes grinds her teeth while asleep. Her mother and I first noticed it about a year ago.
In assisting with your information, she WAS NOT born premature, and is a gifted child with 148 I.Q. She will begin kindergarten this coming fall and is currently reading on a 4th grade level.
She has no physical disabilities and is quite a happy child.
She has been to the dentist 3 times for regular cleaning, and the dentist has noticed or said nothing about her teeth being worn or any indications of grinding.
I do know that I did this myself, off-and-on, up until I was about 16 years old.
The only thing I have read that may explain my daughters behavior is that on occassion, she does have mild allergy problems (ie: runny nose) which is easily corrected with a prescription called Dyalargy Syrup.
I do not know if any of this information will help, but I am interested in anything you learn.
I ran across your question by accident while reasearching why my daughter does this and what are the causes.
