Jill, here at the University of Michigan we do many patients like this. For the first 2 hours of this study you want to run 2 airflow channels. One for the nasal/oral and one for the trach. You could use one single channel thermocouple or thermister for the trach channel. Sometimes the patient will switch from trach breathing to nose and mouth breathing during the night. You want to see this when this occurs. After this portion of the study, you will need a trach plug to plug the trach. Your respiratory dept(if hospital based)will have these. The patient should have this prior to sleep study from the people that are providing the supplies for their trach. There are different sizes due to different size trachs. Likely it is a trach from Shiley.
Hope this helps!!
