childhood sleep disorder

Posted by Maryanne Kufs on December 02, 1997 at 16:58:48:

I am looking for direction and help. A child I work with, age 4 years, has his parents very concerned. He wakes in the middle of the night and "makes coffee" by putting candles in a coffee cup and putting the cup in microwave, going outside and wandering, climbing into dangerous places in and out of the home. The child's mother says that her son appears to be awake but not "really there". At first she thought he was just being mischievous, now both she and her husband feel that he's not fully sleeping but definitely not awake. Their pediatrician is stumped and said the child will grow out of it. These parents are at a loss, how can I advise them, where can they go for help? Thank you. Please e-mail any response to KufsMere@aol.com
