prescription for sleep?

What prescription medications are best for sleep
problems? I've tried all of the OTC stuff like
Benadryl, melatonin as well as a glass of gin.
I've tried them all with poor results. I keep to
a regular schedule, avoid caffene and try to do
"all the right things". My family doctor doesn't
consider sleep disorders a "real" problem worth
treating. I have a close friend who is an MD, and he is willing to help....but sleep is not his specialty. Any suggestions on a pill that will
put me to sleep and is relatively safe?
