Take the self assessment test at http://www.sleep-saca.com to get
an unprejudiced viewpoint as to whether you have a problem.

Many people have tried to self-medicate themselves for years to no effect, and to their personal detriment. Alchohol tends to worsen some sleep disorders (like sleep apnea).

There are medications available to treat specific causes of sleep disorders, but one must be seen by a trained professional in sleep disorders (browse this site for clinics and practioners) to accurately determine the most effective treatment.

On a personal note, I have mild sleep apnea and moderate restless leg syndrome that added up to a severe sleep deprivation problem.
I have had this all my life, didn't realize it until I was 42. Effective treatments were brought to bear on both causes, and I can't believe the differences that it has made.

Do yourself a giant favor - see a professional if the assessment test indicates that you should do so. Nothing OTC, or any amount of caffeine or other stimulants will even approach what can be done for you by a physician that is well-versed in sleep disorders. They are real, and can have a devastating effect on your life.
