Hallucinations, delusions, sleep deprivation

Posted by Keil on December 05, 1997 at 11:28:19:

Hi, I'm a first year college student in my first week of finals...and, well, I haven't been getting a whole lot of sleep the last few days (actually it has more to do with things like false fire alarms and drunk girls passing out on my bed than studying). I got an hour of sleep last night, and four or five the night before. I was just wondering how long I can keep this up before I start having hallucinations and dreams while I'm awake. Does this sort of thing actually happen? How long could I go with no sleep at all? What symptoms are there after many days with no sleep at all? I've gotten curious about this sort of thing lately, and I would greatly appreciate any responses. Thanks.
