Somnoplasty is a very new procedure with good promise. It has been shown to reduce snoring but has not been approved to treat sleep apnea and that is probably why your insurance company is not paying for it. However, studies are going on to see if it can treat apnea but will take some time for sure. One day hopefully the FDA will realize that heavy snoring can be just as hazardous to your health as sleep apnea. It is usually associated with Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome which is a partial block of the upper airway which requires much more effort in breathing and has a similar consequences as sleep apnea.
Let us know how the procedure goes. Others here have been waiting to hear from someone who has gone through the treatment.
