2 1/2 year old won't nap

I'm looking to help the parents of a 2 1/2 yo girl who gets visibly tired in the early afternoon but fights taking a nap. Later in the day she'll nap but that disrupts her ability to go to bed at night. She's a very happy and apparently intelligent little girl.
