Posted by Bill on December 12, 1997 at 16:46:46:I have been coping with chronic insomnia for 14 years now, averaging about 5 hrs sleep a night, if I'm lucky. Docs have not been much help. I have quit using caffiene and alcohol, practice stress reduction and meditation techniques and am managing the condition as best I can with 1/2 mg doses of klonopin, but I don't consider that a cure. I have been looking for a favorable referral to any sleep clinic. The Stanford Clinic seems to be the most famous, yet the 2 people I spoke to who were treated there 10 years ago could not give it a favorable word. I had a full evaluation 5 1/2 years ago at the Northwest Sleep/Wake Disorders Program-no diagnosis came from it. Has anyone suffering from long term chronic insomnia had a successful treatment at any clinic or with any doctor? By successful, I mean that one leaves with a physical diagnosis leading to some treatment which ends with the subject able to look forward to 8 hrs of unmedicated sleep a night.
