Sleep Apnea and my dad

Posted by Anna on December 15, 1997 at 15:31:34:

Hi,

I'm just posting this in concern for my dad, who has had sleep apnea problems for a good many years. He uses a wedge to raise his head, which allows for better rest, but sometimes that doesn't help. When my dad and I are on the road and he has to stop somewhere and nap for a few minutes, he doesn't get a good amount of rest, because his airway is blocked somehow....My dad won't see the local specialist because the specialist isn't all that friendly to work with, and on top of that, my dad is overweight, and the specialist got on Papa's case because of it! (Papa doesn't take to nagging very well, and Papa can't help being as overweight as he is--he's got a slow metabolism.)

Can anything be done to help my dad?

A concerned college student.
