New to the CPAP Gig & it's making me crazy!

Posted by Kelly Barkley on December 16, 1997 at 08:21:51:

I was recently diagnosed with a mild sleep apnea (13 episodes/hour) and put on a CPAP set at 7. I'm trying hard to get used to it, but I keep breaking the seal on the mask when I am sleeping, regardless of my position. It's a regular mask, not a gel mask - it has soft rubber/plastic that goes around the outside of it. "Standard issue", I would guess.

anyhow, I'm only four days into this, but I'm having a hard time getting used to it. I sleep OK at night, but I'm waking up a lot - usually when I break the seal, and I'm scared to move for fear of breaking the seal! Is this something that I will just have to get used to? WILL I get used to it eventually?

I really am determined to make this work, but man, it's frustrating! I'd also like to know if anyone has experienced weight loss as a result of the increased oxygen flow the CPAP delivers.

Any help, advice, encouragement, whatever ... is appreciated! Thanks for listening.
Kelly
