There is an authoritative paper establishing the diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia published in the arthritis professional journals( I don't recall which one) , author is Canadian - Dr. Wolfe - I think. At the Sleep Disorders Center where I work we have a good working relationship with several rheumatologists (arthritis doctors). Many people with fibromyalgia also have sleep disorders- quite frequently Periodic Limb Movement Disorder and also Sleep Apnea. Many more have "alpha-delta sleep" which is also known as "non-restorative sleep syndrome". Medications do help. Many relaxation techniques also help. If your physician(s) poo-poo fibromyalgia, get a second opinion.
