OSA treatments not working

Posted by Laurie Miller on December 18, 1997 at 17:09:55:

Please help. I need some other OSA treatments to try. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in May 1997. I am a 36 year olf female. I have used CPAP, Bi-PAP, Automated C-PAP, a dental device to move the jaw forward and Amnitriptline. The machines and masks have been tested and are working properly. No matter what pressure it is set to, I still wake up. I tolerate CPAP and the dental device well, but I still keep waking up anywhere from 3-6 times per night (no change since treatments started). The sleep center and the specialists I have seen are running out of things to try. One has mentioned tongue resectioning surgery because he thinks the airway is collapsing at the base of the tongue. I do not want this surgery because of the risks and I'm not sure now if I really have OSA since I have been told CPAP works in all cases if it is tolerated. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
