CPAP and a big, fat cold

OK, I've had my CPAP for a week now - but now I have a really nasty cold and can't wear it. What have any of you done when you've had a cold? Is it OK to go without it until you clear up? I felt like I was going to suffocate with it on the other night while my head was stuffed up!
