Hello G!
Hypnojerk is a common occurence that in many individuals accompanies sleep onset, and these jerks can increase in frequency and intensity with increased levels of stress. If, accompanying these events, elements of fright, terror, fear, or non-specific trepidation occur, such as those to which you allude, there is a suggestion of "deeper" sleep disturbance which might well be further investigated. As the situation has progressed to the point that you are inhibited in going to sleep, this constitutes sleep disturbance and I reccomend that you consult with a physician specializing in sleep disorders for further diagnosis, and, if indicated, treatment.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond.
Brian
