In addition to Brain's response: Sleep Deprivation 1. fogs the memory (impairs transfer of new info into long term memory), 2. reduces concentration through many mechanisms, not the least of which is microsleeps, eg the brain going to sleep for 1-2 seconds at a time in order to keep itself going. Occurs at any time of the waking hours and really destroys your concentration! 3. Growth hormone is released primarily in sleep stages 3+4. Sleep deprivation deprives you of growth hormone. 4. Artistic ability and critical thinking skills are dulled by fatigue. 5. Problem solving skills and dealing with stress are impaired by fatigue. 6. The immune system is impaired.
7. Falling asleep at the wheel is VERY common in teens and is partially responsible fir the high teen accident rates.
8. Given the above, is it any wonder that sleep deprivation is a part of "standard" brainwashing techniques?
