sleep apnea

Posted by James E. Rice on January 08, 1998 at 23:47:19:

Just got a home computer and found this wealth of info. Diagnosed w/sleep apnea back in '94 but refused to go with CPAP. Too vain, I guess. Did try for one month this past May and couldn't get used to it. Used cold air humidifier that was worse than useless. No one mentioned warm air humidifier. Had UPPP in July and it didn't work, but I was only told it was a 50/50 chance. Still, one hopes for success otherwise, why do it? Had a follow up study two weeks ago and, if anything, it is a little worse than before (65 episodes vs. 54 in 1994). I'm going to try the CPAP again and all the info seen here should be helpful. I don't think I want anymore surgery. Have experienced liquid going down windpipe if I don't swallow correctly. Also, have had a respiratory infection for past week. Nurse Practitioner said my throat was very red (a mess as she put it) but it is not sore. Wonder if nerve damage occurred during surgery? I'll talk to Dr. next week when we go over latest sleep study results and options.
Sorry to be so windy, but I'm excited about everything I've found here and hope it will help. Thanks all for sharing!!
