Re: I don't want to sleep (Ted, 319.htm, 10/3/97)

This is actually a response to "Ted" who wanted to know about purposeful sleep deprivation (Oct-3-1997).

Ted, I agree with you and I have been searching for information on purposeful sleep deprivation for some time now.

I read about a researcher by the name of Claudio Stampi at the Boston Institute of Circadian Physiology. Apparently he did a study in which participants slept in 15 minutes increments every 4 hours. Supposedly, these people were able to function as normal, with no side effects.

I attempted to phone this Circadian Institute, but no one had heard of them (not 411 info, not Harvard). I even wrote several letters to the author of the article - Marsha Kranes - but she never replied.

If you find out anything, please spread the word. As for enjoying sleep like a fine meal, there are meat & potato lovers and then there are vegans. Some people are cut out for it and others are not.

Maybe this is not the correct forum for discussing this. I realize that sleep apnea causes a great deal of trouble and pain for people and I don't mean to belittle their problems with my search for less sleep.

Thanks
