Posted by Michael Kennally on January 15, 1998 at 16:51:23:I have been suffering from a sleep disorder since early 1991.
It seems to happen as I have just entered sleep. I know I have only been unconcious for a short while but I have no idea how long exactly , when I suddenly jolt awake and gasp for air.
I was originally diagnosed as having central sleep apnea. A few years later I was told it was a misdiagnosis, and that it was 'hypnogogy'
It is a very difficult experience to describe, sometimes it feels as if a kind of 'wave' is going through my brain as I wake.
Sometimes I have images or hallucinations before it occurs. They are usually mundane and never threatening. The most common one is of the room I'm actually sleeping in. Its only when I wake and see the room from a slightly different perspective I realise it is a dream.
I am very aware of it happening, but have no idea if smaller arrests take place in deeper that do not rouse me
Does anyone know what is going here?
