I try to avoid chronic use of medication for insomnia but have not always succeded. Chronic insomnia is very debilitating. At our clinic we try to use phototherapy, sleep restriction, sleep hygiene and other non-drug treatments as much as possible to minimize the use of medication. You said you have seen a "sleep PhD", that person is not prescrbing your medication. Perhaps a sleep MD may be more helpful since your original posting was about a medication for insomnia (Klonopin). I don't expect a "magic bullet" will be developed to remedy chronic insomnia. Once the insomnia is chronic there is inevitabily a learned component to the problem. Since you have "performance anxiety" you probably worry about your sleep. This can lead to a vicious cycle. Since you are using this forum to ask about a particular medication, you are possibly having some difficulty with your current physician. If this is true, let your doctor know. The doctor then will try harder to help you or perhaps suggest somebody else who can. Good Luck!
