A 20 lb. weight gain is certainly likely to have an effect on the severity of your problem.

If airway narrowing is the problem, there are a range of choices of medications given to sufferers of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), among which you may find help, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatories which can produce the good effects of steroids without the side effects.
