He is very aware that something is wrong and is very willing to do whatever it takes (within financial reason) to get himself some help.

I'm just not certain what steps we should take....obviously he should first speak to his doctor. Maybe they will refer him to a sleep disorder center??? (Is that how it usually works)?

Anyway, thank you for responding so promptly and I look forward to reading your responses.
