Maria is right. She left off one important detail, that is you have to be consistent with your children. Have a bedtime routine and stick with it every night without fail and they will soon get the message you mean business when you say it's bedtime.

It is torture to let them cry, I have done it and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. The benefits are great, a child who knows when he's put to bed he can't get out of it no matter what he does.
