NARCOLEPSY - A DISABILITY

[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Sleep Forum ] [ FAQ ]

Posted by BOCHATER on October 30, 1997 at 21:16:34:

I am a 55 year-old Male who has lived most of his life with NARCOLEPSY. The disorder was diagnosed long before
there were such things as "SLEEP DISORDER CENTERS" or "SLEEP LABS", so in 1985 I went to a SLEEP DISORDER CENTER
and had my original diagnoses positively confirmed. Not only NARCOLEPSY, but RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME, as well as
some SLEEP APNEA. Over the years I survived the workplace, etc and tried to lead a somewhat "normal" life. However,
the problems worsen and now at 55, I find I can no longer hold down a job due to constant falling asleep. Medication,
previously administered and minimally effective now not only does not work, but causes severe hypertension.
I applied for Social Security Disability and have just been TURNED DOWN!
Is there anyone out there who can advise me on what next to do, etc... I have heard of narcoleptics who are on S.S.Disability.
HELP>>>>>!!!!!
