Although I would not classify myself as a "sleep professional/expert", I believe the longest duration without sleep (other than fatal familial insomnia people) is 264 hours. Randy Gardner, a 17 year old high school student, stayed awake for 11 days and nights as a project for a sciance fair. His efforts were monitored and well documented by scientists and sleep experts.
