Xyrem (sp) trade name for gamma-hydroxybutyrate is in FDA approved clinical trials sponsored by Orpan Medical Inc. GHB was classified as an orphan drug under the Orphan Drug Act of 1987, but the DEA is attempting to have it declared illegal before the clinical trials are over. Materials from the NIH/NINDS include references to use of GHB. More information can also be obtained through the Narcolepsy Network, P.O. Box 42460, Cincinatti, Ohio 45242 (513) 891-3522 or narnet@aol.com.
