I used to have insomnia when I was younger. I started practicing breathing while laying in bed and learned to fall asleep pretty much at will and actually slept better. Now when getting to sleep becomes a problem I just concentrate on my breathing and in a couple of minutes I am sleeping. If you are interested; try making the sound you make just as you wake up in the morning. It comes from the back of your throat. I make it by sort of pushing the base of my tongue up on the inhalation and then opening the mouth slightly and making a soft "hah" sound on the exhalation. Works really well for me. I also use it in stressful situations during the day. Good luck!
