Posted by Stephanie Severson on November 19, 1997 at 17:10:52:Recently one of my eighth grade students was told she had a sleep disorder. Basically what they know as of now is that she has been on the "night shift" cycle for most of her life and now she is having problems breaking herself of this cycle. She tends to fall asleep several times during class (and no, my class is not that boring) and even when I wake her she will fall asleep again within seconds. It is my opinion that she is using this as an excuse, but I do want to help her recover. I am looking for ideas to help her stay awake during her school day. Also, does anyone know how long it takes to break this cycle? I've worked strange hours before, but have always been able to adjust within a week or so to a new schedule. Thanks for your help. Stephanie
