It could be useful. I live in a very dry climate (Canberra, Australia) and in initial use of my CPAP machine developed chronic rhinitis and a sore throat - I could barely talk for two weeks. I now use an inline heated humidifier and have had no further problems - in addition, I suffer much less from the annual hayfever which afflicts a large proportion of the local population (including my wife - in this case a useful control - her hayfever has been no better over the past two years).
