Try searching for info on REM Behaviour Disorder (RBD), a disorder that makes you act out your dreams. Also, under sleepwalking. Try links on this forum's homepage to the National Sleep Foundation. Do not hesitate to see a sleep specialist for a second opinion if you are uncomfortable with your physician's recommendations, but don't just blow this off. You can get seriously hurt, as you already know.
