You mention that the steroids took down the swelling of the tissues, and allowed you better sleep, at least for a few nights.
Have you and your doctor considered the surgeries that are available for "eliminating" (more like diminishing) snoring, in association with continuing with Nasal CPAP? It kinda sounds like you would be a candidate for that.
