Problem When I Fall Asleep

Posted by Brian on January 31, 1998 at 22:31:29:

I've been having a problem for several years where when I first fall asleep I have a type of panic where I fight to try and wake up. Sometimes I scream and kick and try anything to wake up. Sometimes there is nothing scarying me, just the need to awake and can't, I am paralyzed? Anyone know what this is? It's been going on so long that I am consius of it when it's happening and I know what's going on. I try and stay calm as I fight to awake but sometimes it's hard. Other times I feel a presence, like a pressure against my body. I've looked at the clock and this always happens AS SOON as I start to fall asleep. Once I awake, if I stand up, walk around a minute and lay back down I'm ok. I did know someone once who had similar problems, is this a known disorder?
