Just read your post. Welcome to the world of sleep disorders.
First of all, find a doctor who is accredited in the treatment of sleep disorders. I believe that some of the adjoining web sites have info.
I was diagnosed 4 years ago with sleep apnea, 2 years after a very bad fall.
anyway, i kept searching for a dr who could find out why I was so tired. I ended up at our local teaching med center. The dr diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and sent me to the psychology dept where they recognized the problem and set me up with the 2 day test also. Since then, I have been tested 3 more times to increase my CPAP (continuous positive air pressure). Beleive me the first 6 weeks were no picnic, but now I recomend it to everyone.
My dr assured me that your brain is still in control and it will wake you when you are oxygen deprived. If your husband knows when you are holding your breath, have him nudge you awake.
Due to the combination of med problems, plus depression and PLMS, the vicious cycle of which came first, the chicken or the egg evolves. Thus pain increases restlessnes which causes sleep deprvation which causes more pain which causes depression etc.......
Just hang in there and nap when you can for now. do prop yourself up or sleep in a recliner. Try to keep your airway open and stay off your back for now.
Good luck
