I'm not sure how long it takes to receive the full benefit. I would think it would depend upon each person's individual needs and consistent use of the phototherapy light.
I used it consistently when I first was diagnosed in getting up in the am, and when staying awake at nights. However, within a years time (rough estimate) I began not using it at much (not deliberate - just didn't feel the need for it). I still use it at times, although not as much as I should.
And yes, it will feel like a coincidence! Almost as if nothing happen, but you do go to sleep. Let me know if after continued use, you become conditioned to lights, including indoor lights.
I did and now must control the amount of lights I have on each night or I don't go to sleep; same thing in the am - I need more light or I tend not to wake up as easily.
There is one drawback. It can cause headaches. I have them but I do not believe they were caused by the phototherapy light. My doctor advised me not to look into it directly for periods of time, but just glance up at it. Also to keep it approx. 2-3ft. away, although there were times I kept it away even more and it still worked.
Good luck with the use of it.
