Posted by Mrs. Packard on February 10, 1998 at 10:15:52:My husband has used a CPAP for +10 years.
This year has been as difficult as the year leading to the Sleep Apnea diaagnosis. There has been continuing health problems which include shortness of breath, morning headache, tiredness, degrading intellect, forgetfulness, and family concerns regarding driving. We were seeing our doctor monthly or more. The week before Thanksgiving Don experienced some medical incident. He woke up in the morning and His fingernails' turnd blue, his feet were dusty and blue and he felt terrible. He took too long getting up and getting ready for work. With a poor response from our doctor, I lost my temper and demanded a sleep study and a blood oxygen level. With this we got the study scheduled and a trip to the hospital for the oxygen level. It was afternoon however by the time Don got the oxygen level done and it showed nothing. After the sleep study with the new titration going from 14 to 9, DOn has felt better. A change in doctors has occurred. No one is sure why he's blue. We are in a HMO and Don is in charge of the computer programming for them. We are waiting for an appointment for Mayo, Barnes or Iowa City.
Does anyone know the consequences of having too high of a CPAP setting for possibly a year?
We need information for treatment. Prognosis. Can we expect the situation to stablize? The doctors here are not able to give us any answers. And with the change in doctors we are uncomfortable.
